Tradewind Subs - Education Specialist Credentialed Substitute

Pay: Starting daily rate is $250 - $300 (adjust as needed)
Schedule: Long Term, 7.5 hours daily
Primary Purpose
Tradewind Subs staff provide temporary instructional and support services to K-12 schools, filling in when a school's regular staff is absent or when additional support is required to meet classroom, behavioral, or compliance needs. Education Specialist Credentialed Substitutes provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Staff are employed by Tradewind Subs and placed at client schools throughout Los Angeles County.
Essential Duties
Special Education Instruction
- Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with lesson plans, IEP goals, and district curriculum.
- Provide specialized academic instruction to students with mild, moderate, or extensive support needs.
- Adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Student Support & IEP Implementation
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans as outlined in students' IEPs.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school staff to support student success.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to permanent school staff.
Classroom Management & Supervision
- Maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment.
- Supervise students during instructional time, recess, lunch, transitions, and other assigned activities.
- Use positive behavior intervention strategies consistent with school and district expectations.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure student safety at all times and follow established emergency procedures.
- Comply with all mandated reporting obligations under California law.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Follow all school, district, charter, and Tradewind Subs policies and procedures.
Administrative & Communication Tasks
- Complete attendance, timesheets, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, service providers, and support staff regarding student needs and classroom activities.
Physical Requirements
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to bend, stand, walk, and move throughout classrooms and school campuses for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or assist students, instructional materials, or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to respond quickly to student behavioral or safety needs.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Pre-Employment Requirements
All candidates must satisfy the following requirements before placement at any school site:
- DOJ/FBI Livescan Fingerprint Clearance (required under California Education Code §44237).
- Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or test (required under California Education Code §49406).
- Valid work authorization / I-9 documentation.
- Valid California Education Specialist Teaching Credential (or appropriate authorization) with EL authorization, as required by the assignment.
- Verification of applicable credentials, permits, and certifications. Education Specialist Credential
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is preferred.
